Certified Nursing Program

Fort Lewis Spouse in a Certified Nursing Program

An American Forces Press Service News Story

A 33-year-old spouse at Fort Lewis, Washington is also excited about the Career Advancement Account (CAA) program. She is using CAA to help finance her training to become a certified nurse.

When her husband enlisted last year, she didn't realize that it could mean a positive career move for her too. She had always wanted to work in the field of medicine, but for financial reasons, it was never previously an option.

"We just couldn't afford it," she said. "There's just no way I'd be able to go to school [without the CAA]. I'm really grateful for this opportunity."

She is now enrolled in a certified nursing program and has started her first course. She is excited about the upcoming coursework.

Enrolling in the CAA program was much easier than she expected. "I heard about the program on the news and went to the joint briefing [announcing its launch] to get more information," she said. "I talked to a counselor, set an appointment, and then completed the paperwork. The whole process was really quite smooth."
