Application Process

Interested in getting started with a Career Advancement Account?
  1. Download a Career Advancement Account (CAA) application process form located on the DoD Voluntary Education Webpage.
  2. Gather relevant paperwork and documents, such as high school diploma, resume, and any current certifications.
  3. Make an appointment with the Family Support Center or Voluntary Education Center. They will help you start the application process, verify your military member's rank  for CAA eligibility and explain your education and training options.

Next Steps:

Once the Family Support Center or Voluntary Education Center has verified your military member's rank, they will connect you with the Department of Labor (DOL) One-Stop Career Center. The One-Stop Career Centers are responsible for administering the Career Advancement Accounts. They may provide you with career advice and will assist you with the remaining steps for a Career Advancement Account.

  1. Spouse selects appropriate education or training, which must lead to a degree or credential in a portable career field.
  2. Spouse enrolls in education or training.
  3. One-Stop Career Center uses the spouse's Career Advancement Account to pay the tuition and fees associated with the course.
  4. Spouse arranges for any certification tests and processes any license applications, as necessary.
  5. Spouse provides any data or documentation requested by Voluntary Education Center and One-Stop Career Center staff. For example: documentation of program participation and completion, employment, retention in employment, and earnings.
